May 24, 2014 : Production In Full Swing

The last few weeks have been pretty busy – getting back from an extended stay in Chicago, spending a weekend in D.C. as well as NYC, and doing an in-town move. Between all this, I have spent a good amount of time animating for the new short. Nearly 7000 frames have been animated. Excluding backgrounds, much of it has been rendered. Below is a quick screen grab.

The short is about 5 1/2 minutes long; and even though animation should be completed next week, there is still plenty more to do. The hard deadline is June 27th, but I hope to get everything completed by the 20th. My goal is to make more frequent posts in the upcoming weeks detailing the progress of things. So stay tuned…

January 28, 2014 : Pre-Production Modeling

As mentioned in a previous post, I have started working on a new short. There are still quite a few things that need to get done before animation can begin – most notably, a whole bunch of modeling. This includes generating a fair amount of amount of characters. Last week I cranked out some preliminary models for a few of the smaller characters. Below is a shot of one of these models in Lightwave.

I still want to tweak the colors, and obviously I need to set up the bones for the rig (hence the static pose); but I’ve liked how the characters are starting to turn out, this one in particular. This week the focus is more on the main characters, which probably means it will be slower going since they are of greater importance. The plan will also be to work on some storyboards… along with a few other things, time permitting.
