September 28, 2011 : FMA: Brotherhood – I Miss You Already
Adult Swim finished up its run of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood this past weekend. The 64-episode series was my favorite anime on Adult Swim since Death Note, and the ending did not disappoint.
Brotherhood followed the manga more closely than the original series, and thus I think it remained more focused than its predecessor. There were few, if any, filler episodes – their storylines were crisp and fast paced (definitely something Bleach has not been able to do the past few years).
It’s worth mentioning that the original series was still pretty entertaining. In fact, here is a good article discussing the value in both versions. I think Brotherhood was just above and beyond fantastic. I don’t know what Adult Swim has planned to replace it in its lineup, but it will certainly have big shoes to fill. Here’s hoping it isn’t Casshern.

May 31, 2011 : A New Fullmetal Alchemist Movie… Uh Oh.
In the same vain as my previous post, Funimation has bought the distribution rights to Fullmetal Alchemist: Sacred Star Of Milos. The movie is set to premiere in Japan this summer and will be in America early next year.
So why the ‘Uh-Oh’? Well, according to this article, the movie is a continuation of the series. Now, I love FMA: Brotherhood, and I am stoked to see the remaining 16 episodes of the 64 episode series; however the new movie coming on the heels of the series makes me a little worried that the movie was needed to properly tie it up (look at the FMA movie that followed the original series or even the incredibly confusing ending to Evangelion).
Just about every episode of Brotherhood has been great, and many have been incredible; but it would be a shame if they don’t adequately finish the series within the original 64 episodes. On the other hand, maybe the movie is just an extended prologue; but the skeptic in me will believe it when I see it, which I most certainly will.

January 6, 2011 : Archer Bob’s Alchemy Premieres
The cold weather got you down? Fear not, January is riddled with premieres guaranteed to lift the spirits, and it all starts this weekend!
– Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood’s new season starts back up this Saturday. With Bleach’s horrible filler episodes (aka the Captain Amagai Saga) currently airing, FMAB is by far the best anime Adult Swim has to offer.
– Bob’s Burgers finally premieres on FOX this Sunday. If you’ve watched ten minutes of FOX in the last month, you’ve no doubt seen commercials for the show. If only they pimped out American Dad that much. Oh well… with H. Jon Benjamin involved, I’ll keep an open mind.
– Speaking of Mr. Benjamin, Archer’s second season kicks off January 27th on FX. The network is finally airing episodes from season 1 – granted, late at night on weekends – but it has reminded me how funny it is.
With respect to the production of SMD’s upcoming short, things are going smoothly (or as much as could be expected). A few more post-production items remain, but it is reasonable to see a finished product in a few weeks.

June 23, 2010 : Death Of The Undying… Awesome!
There is a shortage of solid anime on TV nowadays, which is unfortunate considering a few years ago it was getting fairly popular among mainstream audiences.
Despite decreasing the quantity and quality of shows in this genre, Adult Swim is at least airing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The series more closely follows the manga compared to its predecessor.
Last weekend, Adult Swim aired Death Of The Undying – and… that… episode… rocked.
I miss watching really great anime, and this episode reminded me why.
On a side note, Louie premieres on FX next week. I’m a fan of Louie C.K.’s stand up – plus FX has had some pretty solid comedies in the past few years. Those are reasons enough to be optimistic about the show… that and the fact that I have to wait a few more months to see new Venture Bros.
